#AgChat Tweetups

What’s a tweetup? Simply put – a live meeting of tweeps (people) in a community of common interests. After sharing hundreds of conversations, it’s great to actually meet the faces behind the names. There have been many collaborations, relationships and even businesses have formed through #AgChat – though people have never met face-to-face. Tweetups at various ag events are a wonderful way to foster more people to engage in our virtual community and strengthen agriculture’s voice in social media.

  • Tweetups are a matter of finding a time best for the majority and having a good location.
  • Check your agenda to see when the best window(s) will likely be for the majority.
  • Tweet and Facebook others to see if they’re interested – use the #agchat tag on Twitter to draw the most hits.
  • Find a couple of other folks key folks engaged in the #agchat community that will be at your event and help you champion the tweetup.
  • Try to use #agchat tag when possible so that others in ag community pick up on it – along with your event tag. Regardless of how well you’ve communicated, there’s always someone who hasn’t heard of it
  • Ask conference organizers to list it in program, include it in promotions (e.g. announce on speakers), website, etc.
  • Let @mpaynknoper know about your tweetup date, time, location & contact person – she’ll add it to the list below.
  • Consider having nametags for people to write their Twitter handle on – it’s fun to watch the immediate recognition of Twitter handles.
  • Plan to tweet during the event, encourage participants to do so and take pictures to share afterwards. Everyone likes to see other #agchat tweeps.
  • It seems to work well to have 2-3 key questions to ask the group and give a little focus, a little since we’re all used to talking around a topic.
  • Share your experiences with other in the #agchat community – we all like to hear about the experience and you may be helping someone else.
  • Have a way that people attending the tweetup can access internet.
  • Use Ustream to stream video (if you wish).

Good luck and let us know how it goes!
